Abstract:
A new generation of supply chain planning software tools is here, based on the concept that systems are more effective if they are smarter, provide better answers through new optimization technologies, and offer a holistic approach to planning across an entire network, versus the "stovepipe" approach found in many current APS deployments.
Next-generation solutions also more fully automate the planning process to keep the need for manual intervention in routine activities to a minimum, enabling planners to produce better plans through a focus on exception management, spending less time on the basics and more time on strategy and analysis.
Systems that support this approach are designed from the ground-up to be used less as traditional decision support tools, and more as intelligent, highly automated planning engines. They employ powerful technologies such as demand sensing and multi-echelon optimization, but keep the smarts behind the screen, transparent to the user. They make planning easier, because the system is able to do much more on its own.
This broadcast will detail all that and more, providing real insight into where supply chain planning software is headed, and provide an excellent case study from RS Components, the world’s largest distributor of electronics and maintenance products, describing how it was able to achieve breakthrough supply chain performance from these next-generation planning tools.
Featuring Joe Shamir, CEO, ToolsGroup, Andrew Lewis, Head of Global Supply Chain Planning at RS Components, and SCDigest Editor Dan Gilmore.
