Abstract:
In Part 2 of this three-part series, Dr. David Simchi-Levi of MIT will introduce a new framework for matching customer value proposition, channels to market and product characteristics with the appropriate operations strategy. Implementing a strategy that does not match these drivers leads to inefficiencies, unnecessary expenses and poor customer service in the best-case, or to an eventual business failure in the worst-case. This framework leads to a supply chain segmentation that takes advantage of synergies to reduce complexity and benefit from economies of scale. One important concept in Simchi-Levi’s method is "trimming the tail" to reduce product complexity and cost resulting in increased margins.
