Abstract:
Lean warehouses eliminate wasted steps, improve productivity, stay flexible, enhance customer value and assume change is constant.
Traditional automation approaches improve productivity, but impose a rigid infrastructure that violates
the Lean need for continuous improvement. Additionally the most difficult warehouses in which to apply lean principles are item, each and case pick operations where large amounts of labor are often required.
Mobile-robotic automation is a goods-to-man technology that changes the game – delivering lean without operational or cost tradeoffs.
During this webinar you will learn about components of Mobile-robotic automation systems, see how the solution works and experience actual operations via a set of case study video segments featuring DJO, Incorporated.
|
Video Case Study:
DJO is a billion dollar US medical device manufacturer and distributor where ‘lean’ is a part of the corporate culture. DJO ships via parcel and LTL directly to doctors’ offices, hospitals and rehabilitation centers that do not stock large amounts of inventory. To do this, DJO operates a Mobile-robotic Warehouse Automation System from Kiva Systems in their primary east coast distribution center. The system relies on robots that shuttle mobile inventory shelves between storage areas and fulfillment stations to pick, pack and ship ‘same-day’ orders accurately for delivery within 2 days.
